What are Backlinks?

Backlinks are simply anchor links that point at your webpage. There are 2 different types of backlinks. Backlinks that originate from another page on the same website(Internal Backlink) or Backlinks that originate from an external website(External Backlink).

Internal Backlink Example found on http://www.acme.com/index.html

<a href="/my-products-page.html">View My Products</a>

External Backlink Example found on http://www.roadrunner.com/links.html

<a href="http://www.yoursite.com/my-products-page.html">Acme Inc.'s Products</a>

Why Should I use this Link Checker

Search engines use the text within these anchor tags to determine relevancy. If your webpage has many backlinks that contain the keyword phrase "Acme Anvil", a search engine will see this in a favorable light when determining that webpage's search engine ranking for "Acme Anvil".

It is important you monitor your backlinks. Backlinks drop all the time during website updates and re-designs. Make sure you are aware of this and can act accordingly.

What Backlink Text should I use ?

Try and make sure you are very descriptive when giving Back Link Text to other website owners when establishing link partnerships. Like so:

<a href="http://www.acme.com/products.html">ACME Products - Anvil's, EarthQuake Pills & Dehydrated Boulders</a>

Naturally this also applies to the internal anchor links you use within your website. Ensure you use the keyword phrases you are optimizing for when linking to other pages within your website.

Good Anchor Link Text

<a href="/red-left-handed-anvil.html">View Our Red, Left Handed Anvils</a>

Bad Anchor Link Text

<a href="/red-left-handed-anvil.html">View Our Anvils</a>

What is PR Juice?

PR juice is the amount of PR that is being transferred from the backlink to your page. This is calculated using the Google Page Rank algorithm invented by Larry Page.
